If you are planning to add a SIM card to your unit to give it its own cell plan, here are some tips to help you get through the process of sourcing your SIM card as easily as possible:

Just about every cell provider will want you to provide an “IMEI” number to purchase a SIM card for use in any device. This radio’s IMEI number is one digit too short to be a valid number, so even if you supply it, the number will come back as invalid, so there is no use in even logging it or giving it to your provider – IT WILL NOT WORK.

What you will need to do is to go to a FACTORY STORE (Verizon, T-Mobile, ATT, etc.) and NOT a franchise store, and ask to see the store manager.
DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME ON A FLOOR SALESPERSON, AS THEY GENERALLY WILL NOT KNOW HOW TO DO WHAT YOU NEED.
Tell them you need a “BYOD” (Bring Your Own Device) SIM Card. Tell them you do not have an IMEI number for it. Tell them it is a standard tablet. Do not mention that it is a radio – this will only confuse them and prolong the process!

They may argue that they need an IMEI to get a card activated – this is not true. If they refuse to provide a card, go to another factory store and ask to see the manager. Eventually, you will be able to find a person to provide a “BYOD” SIM card.

Once you have the SIM card, pop it into the radio’s SIM Card slot and do a hard reset (paper clip in the RST hole), and it should report as soon as the the radio reboots. You can check this by going to Settings>System>Android Settings>Connections>SIM Card and verifying a phone number on SIM1.

ATT SUBSCRIBERS:

ATT SIM cards need to treat the radio differently than other devices and will require a different configuration to be entered in the Android “Connections” section.

All firmware updates are done on demand, Over The Air (OTA) on the radio – no USB memory stick is required – but a connection to a high-speed Wi-Fi network is HIGHLY recommended. Generally, we don’t recommend checking for updates when connected to a hotspot or cell network.

To check for updates, make sure you are connected to a high-speed network and go to Settings>System>Upgrade and check for each section there.

If there are new updates, it will present them and ask if you want to update.

Only update one section at a time and make sure the radio reboots after every update.

Accessory Plug Configuration:

The GEN6 T-Style radio comes with multiple additional accessory plugs that will be required for your installation. The image below shows the proper locations for all of the accessory plugs. Even though these plugs are keyed to help locate them into the proper ports, it is possible to plug some of them in incorrectly. NOTE: It is extremely important that all plugs are plugged into the proper ports in order for all accessories to operate properly! Damage to accessories or to the radio may result from improperly located accessory plugs!  We highly recommend that you plug in ALL of the plugs to the their proper ports even if you are not using them in order to not lose them – for instance, if you ever decide to add amplifiers to your system, you will need the RCA output harness. If that plug is plugged in already, you can’t lose it in the garage somewhere… :- )

MOUNTING TIPS:

Due to variations in production tolerances between different trim levels, we STRONGLY advise that you exercise caution when attaching the radio to the factory dash trim using the factory screws.

The mounting bosses on the new radio should sit FLUSH to the factory trim bezel – if there is a gap, overtightening the screws will result in deformation of the plastic on the front of the radio bezel as shown below.

If you do identify a gap between the radio mounting boss and factory bezel, we suggest adding a washer of the correct thickness to fill the gap BEFORE tightening the screws!

Use a hand screwdriver ONLY.

DO NOT USE POWER TOOLS TO TIGHTEN SCREWS!

FACTORY CAMERA WIRING:

If you have a factory camera that displays ONLY in the factory mirror and want it to display on the radio as well, you can transfer the signal very easily to the backup camera input on the T-Style radio:
Start by removing the passenger side dash panel,	then locate harness with gray plug.
Plug a 6′ M-M RCA cable into the radio’s backup camera input and run it to passenger side where you removed the cover. Cut the end of the RCA off at the passenger side and strip off the outer insulation. Separate the RCA’s center conductor from the outer conductor. Strip off 1-2″ of the RCA’s center conductor insulation and twist the RCA’s outer conductors into a single strand. Locate the GREEN/BROWN and GREEN/ORANGE wires in the gray plug. Either crimp or splice & tape the CENTER conductor of the RCA to the GREEN/BROWN wire. Either crimp or splice & tape the OUTER conductor of the RCA to the GREEN/ORANGE wire.	In the settings menu of the radio, activate the reverse camera. When done properly, the camera will display in BOTH the mirror and radio displays when the truck is in reverse.Photos courtesy Dave Tamm.
